Q: Do you provide a discount for non-profits and public schools using the film as a fundraiser?
A: Yes! We are happy to support you with a need-based discount. However, we cannot waive the full screening fee.
You can also get a discount when you buy more than one screening: pay the full price for your higher-priced screening, and get 30% off all additional screenings. Email vsoe@sfsu.edu for inquiries.
Q: Can I charge admissions or ask for donations to my screening?
A: Yes! You are welcome to sell tickets and/or use the film as a fundraiser.
Q: Can I use my screening license for more than one screening?
A: No, licenses are for one screening only.
Q: What equipment do I need to show the film?
A: For the best viewing experience, you will need equipment with a stable internet connection that can play an online streaming link at an appropriate volume. You should also be able to show the film with a large enough video image for the size of your venue and the size of your audience. You’ll also need a sound system that will play audio loud enough for the venue size. We can help you determine if your venue is appropriate for the size audience that you’ll have.
Q: Does the LOVE BOAT: TAIWAN team help me publicize my event?
A: We will supply marketing materials you can use for publicizing your event. Your license includes customizable files for a LOVE BOAT: TAIWAN flyer and postcard, and various graphics for social media. You can simply follow the screening guide and use the digital marketing package files to create your own press release for sending to local media outlets.
Q: Can the filmmaker come to our screening?
A: Due to demand, the filmmaker isn’t able to attend every screening. However, the filmmaker or someone from the movie may be available to attend your screening. Contact us at vsoe@sfsu.edu for more details about scheduling and pricing.
Q: How long should my screening event be?
A: We recommend 90 mins to two hours for your event. The film is 63 minutes long, so that gives you roughly 30-60 minutes after the film to have a discussion with the audience.
Q: What is your advice on ticket pricing?
A: A typical pricing structure is as follows - $5/student, $10/adult, $25/family – but it is completely up to you. If the event is a fundraiser, you may want to charge more.
Q: Do you recommend an online RSVP?
A: Yes, this is a good way to gauge attendance and know if you are reaching capacity at your venue. You will be able to access to the screening guide which provides you information on how you can make your screening a success.
